After years of dedicated service to Ansar’s Immigration Clinic, Anastasiia Bacon is transitioning into the next chapter of her journey. As she steps into her career as an attorney, she shares a few reflections from her time with us:
"When I joined Ansar as a paralegal, I was driven by a deep belief in the
organization’s mission to uplift and empower immigrant communities. As an immigrant
from Ukraine, I understood firsthand the uncertainty, fear, and hope that accompany
every immigration journey. That personal experience shaped my work from the very
beginning. I approached each case with empathy, diligence, and a sense of
responsibility—treating every client’s file with the same care I once devoted to my own
immigration paperwork.
My background gave me a unique ability to connect with clients navigating
unfamiliar systems and cultural landscapes. I recognized the emotional weight many
families carry and worked to be a steady, compassionate presence for them. Balancing
urgency, legal requirements, and the human stories behind each case was challenging at
times, but it taught me patience and strengthened my commitment to the work.
The most rewarding moments came when clients received approval notices for
their immigration benefits. Seeing their relief and joy, and knowing I played a part in
helping them reach a place of stability, reaffirmed why this work matters so deeply.
Throughout my time at Ansar, I embraced every opportunity to grow. I grew into
the position of the Immigration Clinic Coordinator. I received AILA training, completed
coursework through Harvard Business School, and was fully supported in my decision
to study for the bar exam to become an attorney. Much of my learning also came from
hands-on experience—lessons that shaped me into a stronger advocate and leader.
As I move forward in my career as an attorney, I offer this advice to the next
person who steps into my role in Ansar: stay organized, ask questions, and approach
every client with kindness and cultural openness. The work in a non-profit is fast-paced
and demanding, but profoundly meaningful.
I will always be grateful for the opportunity Ansar gave me to grow as a
professional in the immigration field. I also hope my dedication and compassion will
have a lasting impact on the legal clinic and the communities we serve."
We are deeply grateful for Anastasiia’s dedication, compassion, and leadership during her time at Ansar. We wish her continued success in this next chapter and know she will continue to make a meaningful impact wherever she goes.
